Artist
Francisco Carreño
Francisco Carreño is a Spanish visual artist whose practice explores landscape as a material, cultural and cartographic construction. Through painting, direct registration and site-specific processes, his work investigates the relationship between territory, memory and the physical traces embedded in place. Working between Granada and Amsterdam, his recent projects focus on the material identity of landscape through architecture, water, urban surfaces and historical cartography. His paintings combine direct impressions of the city with its historic architectural colour palette, transforming physical traces into a contemporary painterly language. Carreño holds a PhD in History and Arts from the University of Granada and is currently developing his Amsterdam project at SUP (Urban Resort), Surinameplein, Amsterdam
